The Muslim Association of New Zealand Incorporated (MANZ) proudly champions Waqf, a timeless Islamic tradition of endowing assets for the enduring benefit of the community. Rooted in the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)—who encouraged creating perpetual charity (sadaqah jariyah)—waqf allows us to leave a lasting legacy that supports worship, education, and welfare for generations. At MANZ, we facilitate waqf to strengthen our community and fulfil the Qur’anic call to spend in the way of Allah (Qur’an 2:195).

By establishing and managing endowments, MANZ ensures that resources—whether land, buildings, or funds—serve as sustainable foundations for Islamic sites, community services, and charitable projects across New Zealand. Our goal is to harness this powerful tool to meet today’s needs while securing a vibrant future for Muslims in Aotearoa.

How It Works

Creating a Waqf: Contribute assets like property, cash, or investments to establish a waqf. Our Shariah Board guides you to ensure compliance with Islamic law, designating your endowment for a specific purpose, such as a mosque, education fund, or health initiative.
Management: MANZ oversees waqf assets with care, investing and maintaining them to generate ongoing benefits while preserving the principal, as per Shariah principles.

Why It Matters

In New Zealand, where our Muslim community continues to grow, waqf provides a stable foundation for self-reliance and development. Inspired by historic examples—like the waqf of Umar ibn al-Khattab, who endowed land for the poor—MANZ adapts this tradition to local needs, funding everything from prayer spaces to community programs, all while earning continuous reward for donors, even after their passing.
