Zakat

The Muslim Association of New Zealand Incorporated (MANZ) is honoured to facilitate Zakat, one of the Five Pillars of Islam, as a means of purifying wealth and uplifting our community. Zakat is more than an obligation—it’s a powerful act of faith, charity, and solidarity, reflecting Allah’s command: “Take from their wealth a charity by which you purify them” (Qur’an 9:103). At MANZ, we make it easy for you to fulfil this duty while ensuring your contributions benefit those in need.

Our Role

MANZ serves as a trusted channel for collecting, calculating, and distributing zakat in accordance with Shariah guidelines. We work closely with our Shariah Board to ensure transparency and compliance, directing funds to eligible recipients both locally and globally, as outlined in the Qur’an (9:60).

How It Works

  • Zakat Calculation: Not sure how much to give? Use our online zakat calculator [insert link if applicable] or consult our scholars for personalized guidance based on your wealth—cash, savings, investments, and more.
  • Distribution: Your zakat supports local families in hardship, funds community projects (like our Health Services and Families Assistance programs), and aids global relief efforts for the poor, orphans, and those in debt or distress.

Who Can Receive Zakat?

Following Islamic law, zakat is distributed to eight categories, including the needy, the poor, and those working to administer it. MANZ prioritizes local needs while partnering with reputable organizations for international outreach, ensuring every dollar makes a meaningful impact.

Why It Matters

Zakat cleanses wealth, fosters generosity, and strengthens our community’s bonds. In New Zealand, where Muslims are a vibrant minority, your zakat helps sustain vital services and support those facing challenges—building a legacy of compassion and justice.
